Papua-Indonesian .Floods like the Tsunami

JAKARTA - The government remains adamant that the catastrophic flooding that occurred in Wasior District, West Papua, a disaster caused by extreme weather, ie high rainfall.
 
"Disasters of this Wasior indeed we see while we conclude this is a eksterem climate change, changes from time to time from the global side, there are extreme changes that also affect rainfall, rainfall intensity, plus the natural contours of there," said Presidential Spokesman and the Development of Regional Autonomy Felix Wanggai, in Cikini, Central Jakarta, Saturday (09/10/2010).
 
Further according to Felix, due to relatively high rainfall, the flooding resulted in Wasior. He also explained, the results of a review in the field showed it Wasior area is an area that could be considered somewhat vulnerable, because of its position right at the foot of the mountain.
 
"I think it's a major thing that becomes Mr. President, in addition to the reports submitted by the Government of West Papua, Gulf County Government Pondana, and also the results of our visit in the field, showing what happened," he said.
 
Felix also explained that the mission of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono came to the scene is to know exactly the base of the problems that resulted in flooding that claimed more than hundreds of soul.

Indonesian Green Institute (IHI) to predict the ecological disaster in the land of West Papua will occur one after another, if the company owners continue to exploit the forest processing permit forest.
 
IHI chairman Chalid Muhammad said, Wasior disaster into the category of ecological disaster.

IHI noted, the central government provides land management permit for the 20 companies amounted to 3,568,080 hectares of forest concessions in West Papua.
 
A total of 16 companies mining minerals and coal bagging permits for exploration and exploitation of an area of 2,701,283 hectares, while 13 mining concessions of oil and gas received permission 7,164,417 hectares.
